Meet and Learn: Member Meeting & Monthly Educational Program

Red Tide and You: Red tide is devastating to the entire ecosystem and sickens and kills birds. Presenter Sandy Gilbert of START (Solutions to Avoid Red Tide), a non-profit grassroots organization founded in 1996 to work to reduce excess nutrients in our waterways that feed red tide. The presentation will cover the following questions and more: 

1.       What causes it?
2.       Why is it so bad here along the Suncoast?
3.       What is being done about it?
4.       What is START (Solutions To Avoid Red Tide) doing about it?
5.       What can Audubon members do about it?

VAAS President, Kristin Hoffschmidt, will also present information on the effect of Red Tide on birds in our area.

All are welcome - members of the public as well as Venice Audubon Members.

Participants are strongly encouraged to follow current COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

  • 6:00pm:  Social time and refreshments (optional)
  • 6:30pm: Monthly Membership Meeting 
  • Monthly Educational Program follows (usually 6:45)
